Featured Lecturers
Rabbi Manis FriedmanRabbi Manis Friedman, Bais Chana’s primary lecturer, is a gifted educator – an internationally acclaimed lecturer, social philosopher, author and counselor. Friedman’s compelling worldview comes from Torah, Kabbala and Chassidut, and with his trademark wit and wisdom, he’ll challenge our assumptions about Judaism, spirituality and G-d. With over thirty-five years in the classroom and on the lecture floor, a profound knowledge of the soul and psyche, and a crystal clear perspective on life today, Friedman is one of the most riveting teachers you’ll have the pleasure to study with.

Malka TougerMalka Touger is a world renowned teacher and lecturer whose insights on marriage and the role of the Jewish woman have attracted and inspired women and men on all seven continents. Drawn in by Touger’s authenticity and infectious enthusiasm for Jewish study, students commonly describe her presentations with superlatives – and always walk away enriched. Touger has authored and co-authored several best-selling books in both English and Hebrew; created educational videos in both languages; and produced a series of audiotapes on intimacy in marriage. You’re sure to enjoy her.

Vivian PerezVivian Perez teaches Tanya and Parsha weekly classes in Spanish and English in her home of Bal Harbour, Florida. Ginette Sultan, one of her students, sums up her experience studying with Vivian, “Happiness is when Vivian Perez speaks. I feel like an angel has escaped from Heaven to speak specifically to us.” [Vivian will be teaching in Spanish.]

Plaza Paitilla in Panama City
Plaza Paitilla Inn The Plaza Paitilla Inn is located on the Bay of Panama, near Multicentro Mall and Multiplaza Mall. It’s in an exclusive neighborhood where most of Panama’s Jewish community lives and it’s just 20-25 minutes from the airport. All the guestrooms have wall-to-wall panoramic windows, a refrigerator and air conditioning with in-room controls. Our classroom and dining room are a short walk from the hotel guestrooms.

What to Expect in Panama

Weather - Panama’s pleasant tropical climate is warm during the day (highs of 95 F or 32 C) and cooler at night (lows of 75 F or 22 C). You’ll need a light jacket or sweatshirt indoors because of the air conditioning.

Driving -
Taxis are inexpensive so it's preferable not to rent a car; the fare from the airport to the hotel is $20-25. If you must rent a car, visitors to Panama may drive with their foreign license during the first 90 days of their stay; if asked, you should present your passport. Keep in mind Panama Canalroad signage is poor and there’s no GPS in Panama.

Currency
-
Panama’s official currency is the Balboa but the US dollar is the currency in circulation. One Balboa equals one US dollar.

The Panama Canal -
Completed in 1914 and still considered one of the wonders of the modern world, the Canal is the passageway for ships to cross between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean, without having to make the treacherous route around South America. Considered one of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the Canal is a key conduit for international shipping.
Gamboa – Home to caymans, crocodiles, iguanas, and hundreds of bird species, Gamboa is a destination for anyone interested in the sheer beauty and diversity of G-d’s creations. A jungle tour, combined with a tour of the Panama Canal, is scheduled for Friday, March 28.

Shopping
-
Many of the boutiques you find in Manhattan, you’ll find in Panama with considerably lower tax rates. And because Panama distributes to all of Central and South America, you’ll also find more inexpensive items – like clothes, shoes and electronics – that come from China and the Orient.
